After the 1985 Plaza Accord which triggered overseas deployment of manufacturing business due to the appreciation of the yen, Japanese manufacturing industry has always had to make forays overseas for some factors such as increasing production in Western market or production in ASEAN countries, and booming in starting operations in China Therefore, there has been fear about the hollowing out of domestic production for years - as people like to ask “What is Japanese engineering development coming to?” or “Where is Japanese manufacturing or craftsmanship going to?”
